About Me

Hi, my name is Karis Morrall.  Thanks for stopping by!

I'm a journalist, fitness fanatic, avid cook and a military wife.  I created this blog mainly to document my family's journey to Okinawa, Japan, where we'll be stationed for three years.  Along the way, I'll also highlight my cooking experiments, adventures in gardening, workout tips and more.

Loren and Lucky

So what the heck is wabi sabi?

Wabi sabi (excuse my shallow American interpretation) is a Japanese aesthetic that embraces imperfection.  It's about finding beauty in that which is flawed, impermanent and incomplete.

Being a military spouse, transience is pretty much the only thing in life that is guaranteed.  Loren and I married in September of 2010, and we've been on the move ever since.

In two short years, my husband and I have lived in seven different locations.  (Champaign-IL, Austin-TX, San Angelo-TX, Caledonia-IL, Omaha-NE, Pine Grove-CA ... and finally Kadena Air Base - Okinawa, Japan.)

Finally in Okinawa!
Since graduation in 2010, I've been a production assistant for an international documentary company, spent time as a television reporter in small-town west Texas and worked for the American Red Cross.  It's not exactly the life that I imagined post-college, but I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything in the world.
